When I woke up this morning, I did not expect to see the tragic news of Representative Elijah Cummings passing on my iPhone news feed.
Having traveled to Washington D.C as part of the One Nation Commission advocating against the proposed federal Public Charge rule this past May, I had the opportunity to see him in action. I sat in awe as he directed the House Oversight and Reform Committee meeting, where both sides debated the inclusion of the citizenship question in the 2020 Census. His fearless leadership and determination to protect our democracy was undeniable.
Thank you Representative Cummings for devoting your time and working tirelessly to empower those less fortunate. Know that we will continue the fight.
